Privacy notice
Story Sprout works with children, so we treat privacy as part of building the site rather than as a later addition.
This website
This site is a set of static pages. It has no accounts, and it sets no cookies.
Measurement
We count how many people find the training sessions and how many go on to sign up, because that is how we decide where to spend a small volunteer team's outreach effort. We use PostHog for this, and we have configured it narrowly.
What is recorded is a short list of anonymous events — a page being viewed, a session button being clicked, a sign-up completing — together with which page it happened on, and, if you arrived from one of our outreach emails, which campaign sent you.
We do not record:
- your name, email address, or organization — the sign-up form's contents are never sent to our analytics;
- anything you type, or the contents of any form field;
- your screen, your mouse movements, or your keystrokes — session recording, replay and heatmaps are switched off;
- a profile of you across visits.
No cookie or browser storage is used, so nothing identifies you when you come back, and there is nothing here to opt into or out of via a banner. We do not build advertising audiences and we do not share this data with ad networks. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, we record nothing at all.
The webinar sign-up form
The one place this site collects anything is the training webinar sign-up on the home page. It asks for your name, your email address, and — optionally — your school or organization, along with the session you chose.
Those details are added to a private Google Sheet that only the Story Sprout organizers can open, and emailed to them so they can send you the joining link. Nothing is shown publicly, there is no account, and the list is not sold, shared, or used for any purpose other than running these sessions.
Google processes the sheet and the notification email on our behalf. To see what we hold about you or to have it deleted, reply to the email you receive or contact Kindness Matters Inc.
The form is intended for adults — educators and volunteers. Please do not use it to sign a child up.
Our analytics records that a sign-up happened and which session it was for. It does not receive what you typed.
Story Sprout Studio
Story Sprout Studio — the place children actually write — is a separate application from this website, and the following describes it rather than these pages.
The Studio is designed to keep a child's work with the adult supervising them. It has no child accounts. A project and its revision history are held in a local file that the supervising adult controls, and the platform is designed to retain no readable server-side copy of it. Requests for illustrations are passed to the model provider under that provider's terms.
How children's work is published
Storybooks appear on this site only when both are true:
- the item has been approved for publication, and
- its consent status has been confirmed and recorded.
Where a book is published, we do not publish:
- a child's full name, school, contact details, or exact location;
- a child's age inferred from appearance;
- photographs whose permission status is unconfirmed.
Author credits use an approved display name, a group label, or simply "Young authors". Alt text describes the artwork and the activity, never the identity of a child.
Photographs published here have their EXIF and location metadata removed before publication.
Asking us to remove something
If you are a parent, guardian, or educator and want a book or image taken down, contact Kindness Matters Inc and we will remove it.
Note for the project team. This page describes the practices the site is actually built to follow. Add a direct contact address and have the wording reviewed before publishing the site.
